About Brooklyn Recycling Group

Two workers wearing safety gear at an industrial site.

Working together for a cleaner, more sustainable industrial precinct

The Brooklyn Recycling Group (BRG) brings together businesses within the Brooklyn Industrial Precinct to drive improved environmental outcomes, uphold high operational standards, and foster constructive community engagement.

Formed in 2024, after several years in the making, the BRG was established through the signing of Victoria’s first Better Environment Plan (BEP) — a formal, voluntary agreement with EPA Victoria designed to drive air quality improvements and advance Victoria’s Circular Economy Strategy.

Our Members
The founding BRG members operate within the Sommerville Rd/Jones Rd/Bunting Road area and include:

  • Sunshine Groupe (EcoGypsum & Fertilizer)
  • Delta Group
  • City Circle
  • ResourceCo

Our latest member to join in 2026

  • Pelligra

This innovative partnership was the recipient of the Greenstart Award at the 35th Australian Freight Industry Awards, in September 2025. Through Victoria’s first Better Environment Plan (BEP), we’re taking bold steps to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and support a cleaner, healthier future. See The Plan section for more…

Together, our businesses employ hundreds of local workers and manage large volumes of Victoria’s construction and demolition (C&D) waste, diverting materials from landfill and returning recycled products into new infrastructure projects.

Contribution to the Circular Economy

Recovered materials no longer sent to landfill

BRG members currently recycle over half of Victoria’s construction and demolition (C&D) waste, including:

  • Concrete, brick, rock, and masonry
  • Timber and soil

All of this recovered material is recycled and reused locally within Victoria.

A major product from BRG operations is recycled aggregates, which are used in road and civil construction. This process supports sustainable development, reduces the demand for virgin materials, and contributes to Victoria’s circular economy.

Because the member businesses are located within Greater Melbourne, transport-related costs, emissions, and traffic congestion are significantly reduced — making BRG operations both economical and environmentally efficient.

Location

The Brooklyn Industrial Precinct is a key industrial hub located just 12 km west of Melbourne’s CBD. It offers excellent access to ports, major roads, and freight infrastructure, and spans parts of Brimbank, Maribyrnong, Wyndham, and Hobsons Baymunicipalities.

However, infrastructure challenges remain. Aging roads, drainage, and services require ongoing investment to support existing operations and meet the expectations of nearby communities.
